"I Saw the Florence Duomo by Skipping a 2-Hour Line": Elena's Real Experience

Visiting Florence on a day trip is often a race against the clock. You arrive at the station, you have your list of must-sees, but then you crash into reality: the lines. We sat down with Elena, a client of ours who visited from Bologna last week, to hear how her visit to the Duomo went with our reserved entrance ticket.

Here is her "unfiltered" account.

👉 Nearby Italy :  Elena, let’s start from the beginning. We all know the reputation of the queues in Florence, but standing right in front of them is another story. What was your first thought when you arrived in Piazza del Duomo?

Elena: Honestly? I thought, "Why did I even bother?" It was 10:30 in the morning, and the square was packed. There was this human snake winding all around the Cathedral, and I heard people saying they had been there for over an hour. Since my return train was in the afternoon, if I had joined that line, I would have lost half the day. The visual impact was truly discouraging.

👉 NI:  Amidst that chaos, our priority is making the client feel "taken care of" immediately. How did the pre-tour organization feel to you?

Elena: Very efficient—and I say that as an anxious person! We met in front of the Misericordia, and the guide took charge of the situation immediately. One thing I really appreciated was the management of the radios: they handed them out and did a meticulous audio check with each of us to ensure we could hear well, despite the noise of the square. It gave me a sense of great professionalism; we weren't just left to fend for ourselves.

👉 NI: The highlight of the tour is obviously the entrance. From your perspective, what does it feel like to walk in while everyone else is standing still?

Elena:  It’s a great feeling, there's no denying it! And I want to clarify one thing: it’s not that we rudely "cut" in front of people in line. It is actually a completely different path. The guide led us to a dedicated side door on the left, where there was no one else. It opened just for us, and we walked right in. It was all very smooth and relaxing—zero stress.

👉 NI: We designed this tour to be "agile": a 30-minute guide to give a general overview without being overwhelming. Do you think this formula works?

Elena:  In my opinion, yes, it’s the right compromise. The guide was excellent at condensing the history of the Dome and the architecture into half an hour, explaining the fundamental things clearly. Of course, you have to know what you are buying: if you are an art critic or want a deep analysis of every single chapel, I’d probably tell you to book a two-hour private tour. But for those who want to understand the beauty in front of them, get the key information, and then feel free to roam, it’s perfect. Incidentally, after the guided part ended, I stayed inside a bit longer on my own, which I really appreciated.

👉 NI: So, summing it up: who would you recommend this experience to?

Elena:  I recommend it to anyone who wants to optimize their time. It’s perfect for day-trippers like me because it literally saves your visit. But even if you are staying in Florence for several days, why waste two hours standing in the sun or rain? This tour allows you to see the main monument without the fatigue, leaving you with the time and energy to enjoy the rest of the city.

Vacation time is precious!

Don't spend it waiting in line. Do what Elena did: choose the priority lane and enjoy Florence from the very first minute.
