Unexpected Bologna: Private Walking Tour with Archiginnasio

Your experience

Discover a Bologna off the beaten track with this 2-hour guided walking tour, perfect for those who want to go beyond the classic tourist stops. Begin your journey in the heart of the Jewish Ghetto, an intricate maze of alleys rich in history, where you can still breathe the identity of the community that lived there for centuries.

Admire the Prendiparte Tower from the outside, one of the best-preserved medieval towers, a testament to 13th-century Bologna. Continue to the Archiginnasio, the historic seat of the University of Bologna, the oldest in Europe. Here you will access the suggestive Anatomical Theatre, a Baroque masterpiece entirely in wood that tells of centuries of study and research.

Conclude the tour in Piazza delle Sette Chiese, one of the most spiritual and mysterious places in the city, where time seems to have stopped. Here stands the monumental complex of Santo Stefano, known precisely as the Seven Churches, a fascinating weave of sacred buildings constructed between the 4th and 13th centuries. The heart of the complex is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which follows the plan of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and was the focal point of medieval worship in Bologna. A place full of symbolism, legends, and architectural details to discover.

From Tuesday to Sunday, it is possible to access the complex to admire its uniqueness up close. On Mondays, when the complex is closed, the tour includes a stop in Piazza San Domenico, one of the most fascinating corners of Bologna. Here you can admire the facade of the Basilica of San Domenico and its elegant medieval portico, as well as various monumental elements that enrich the square: two columns topped by statues—one of the Madonna and one of San Domenico—and two monumental Gothic arches, tombs of important medieval jurists from the famous Bolognese School. These suggestive architectural elements make the square a true open-air museum.

Thanks to your certified guide, the tour is enriched with curiosities, anecdotes, and details little known even to the Bolognese.
A unique experience for those seeking an authentic Bologna, made of hidden glimpses, surprising stories, and beauty off the beaten path.
